Writing talents, organizational geniuses and creative minds wanted: For the 2025 festival season, we have four open positions in three areas open positions in three areas: for young professionals and students.

Big ideas for the big stage: For the third edition of »Generation Zukunft Musik«  young people from Ludwigsburg and Markgröningen 2024 created an exciting concert in the Forum am Schlosspark.

To bid farewell to our artistic director Jochen Sandig and our managing director Gabriele Zerweck, our musical guest will turn the marketplace to a dancefloor again: Look forward to a special edition of our »Frei Luft Musik« on September 20 with our special guests Shantel & Bucovina Club!

Our annual trip to picturesque Wolfegg in the Allgäu region has tradition. This year, we will once again spend a weekend here in September.  Join us for rousing orchestral sounds with accordion accordion, a matinee with Bach’s cello suites, and heavenly a cappella concert.

Fazıl Say kicked off his residency at the Ludwigsburg Festival with the European premiere of his song cycle »Dünya Anne« (World Mother) and a late-night piano recital. Listen to both concerts (again) on SWR Kultur.

The first joint concert: On July 13, the two ensembles VOCES8 and Chanticleer met for a cappella summit meeting at the Ludwigsburg Festival. You can watch the concert on Deutschlandfunk Kultur , recorded in the sold-out Friedenskirche now (once again)!

On July 20, the meadow in front of the lake castle was filled with picnic blankets, folding chairs, culinary delicacies and, of course, our festival guests – we were once again delighted with your once again delighted with your arrangements and the great atmosphere!

The ticket office at Palais Grävenitz is closed for the whole month of August. Our team is still available by telephone and will be happy to advise you with the purchase of tickets for the concerts in Wolfegg.

Numerous artistic highlights, beaming faces and lots of positive feedback from our audience – eight intensive festival weeks with a total of 45 productions and 54 events lie behind us! This week we are ending our 2024 festival season with a big fireworks display: the open air at Seeschloss Monrepos is coming up! In a summery, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful setting, we will experience refined rhythms, captivating highlights and soulful moments of tranquillity, which will ultimately culminate in a breathtaking fireworks display. So that it’s not so hard to say goodbye, this year we have a festival pilogue in which students from the Film Academy and ADK invite you to take a nocturnal walk in the Salonwald – let us surprise you!

What is the best way to get there? When are the fireworks and what can I I pack in my picnic basket? In our FAQs you will find answers to (almost) all questions about the »Monrepos Open Air«.

Use our free shuttle bus to get to the concert: On July 15, our bus shuttle will take you from Untertürkheim station (Gate 4) to the station »Rotenberger Weingärtle«. From there, smaller shuttle buses will take you to the next station, before you reach the chapel after a 200 meter walk. There is no parking available at the chapel!

With the «Danzón No. 2«, the festival orchestra under the direction of Alondra de la Parra will captivate the audience at the open-air concert! The video with the »Impossible Orchestra« puts us in the mood for the grand finale of the Ludwigsburg Festival on July 20!

In this penultimate week of the festival, we are pulling out all the stops once again: after a final concert in the Ordenssaal with actress Martina Gedeck and star harpist Xavier de Maistre, the VOCES8 artist residency begins this weekend! At »Voces8 Meets Chanticleer« is a summit meeting of a cappella singing of a cappella singing with the US colleagues from Chanticleer in the Friedenkirche. We are also looking forward to the project »VOCES8 Sing Along« on Sunday - starting at 3 pm so as not to clash with the final match of the European Football Championship. On Monday evening, we will celebrate the end of the artist residency with the »VOCES8 Evening Song« and ring in the last week of the festival with an open-air evening at the Grabkapelle Stuttgart in a relaxed, summery atmosphere.

As public viewings are taking place around the market square this Friday and we want to listen to the virtuoso sounds of the four-piece string ensemble »Quelle SURprise« undisturbed, we are moving our »Frei Luft Musik« this Friday, July 5, to the Evangelische Stadtkirche Ludwigsburg, directly on the market square!

Our »Frei Luft Musik« has found a new venue: To prevent the BarockLauf from becoming an obstacle course, we are moving our weekly small open-air concert to the ADK courtyard on Friday, July 12th.

The sixth week of the festival is all about dance: we welcome the Akram Khan Company to Ludwigsburg and let ourselves be carried away by the multimedia dance theater retelling of the »Jungle Book«! We won’t be able to sit still for long at the concert, which has been moved to the Stiftskirche Wertheim due to the weather, when David Orlowsky & Friends provide a good mood with chamber music and jazz. Also relocated and due to the EM-Public-Viewings in the Marktplatz-Gastronomie in the Ev. Stadtkirche Ludwigsburg: the Frei Luft Musik with the string ensemble Quelle SURprise.

We will be guests at the Alte Kelter in Bietigheim, where the SIGNUM saxophone quartet will be playing their own arrangements of classical works. And, of course, another musical gem shines in our series of Ordenssaal concerts when Alexandre Kantorow plays romantic rhapsodies, character pieces and sonatas in his piano recital.

The fifth festival week has begun! The Mahler Chamber Orchestra concludes its artist residency with the question «How does home sound?«, we accompany Anastasia Kobekina and the Basel Chamber Orchestra on their trip to Venice, and Asmik Grigorian performs a song recital. Also: the «Johannespassion« in Haigerloch and the premiere of «Die schöne Müllerin«, a co-production with the Stuttgart State Opera!

We are celebrating the anniversary of 50 years of hip-hop culture with old-school raps through to laid-back party grooves entirely on vinyl records. Find the line-up here:

This week’s guests at the Schlossfestspiele: Violinist Renaud Capuçon with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Pianist Michael Wollny, who takes a »Blick nach Innen« with his art between jazz and classical music. The Minguet Quartett brings together Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C major with the Finnish contemporary composer Kalevi Aho.In addition, children will demonstrate the musical possibilities of minimal music with their own compositions and in the workshops on »In C«, you can dance under the guidance of dancers from the Sasha Waltz & Guests company!

In the third week of the festival, the Schlossfestspiele live up to their name: we are very much looking forward to the first two events with the French string quartet Quatuor Ébène and the Rothko String Quartet at the Residenschloss Ludwigsburg! New to the program is the »Scala Festspiel Kino« series, which also starts this week with the film »Human Requiem«. In »Generation Zukunft Musik«, schoolchildren from Ludwigsburg and the surrounding area will once again put on a colorful event at the Forum am Schlosspark with their own concerts and innovative music formats.

The festival week concludes with the big anniversary »50 Jahre Hip-Hop« in the open air at the Kunstzentrum Karlskaserne.

And, of course, the popular »Frei Luft Musik« will be back again this week, this time Kids of Adelaide will be playing indie, folk and rock sounds.

We are offering free workshops with dancers from Sasha Waltz & Guests on June 21, 22, and 23 in Ludwigsburg for all dance enthusiasts aged 12 and over. Over the course of three hours, you will gain basic insights into the choreography «In C« and are invited to get to know and try out the concept and the various movements in a playful way. The dancer and dance teacher Janna Kleinknecht gives an insight into the workshop offer in the video.

Due to the weather, we are moving the «Frei Luft Musik« with Anna Stucky today, May 31, to the Evangelical City Church Ludwigsburg directly on the market square.

The Supervisory Board of the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele elected a new artistic director at its meeting on March 6. In future Lucas Reuter will take over responsibility. The 40-year-old has been artistic director of the artistic season at the Forum am Schlosspark Ludwigsburg, which he will continue to be responsible for the time being.

Before we start the new festival season on May 11 2023 with the »Fest Spiel Ouvertüre«, the overture of the past year closes our »nachgehört« series. In the Forum am Schlosspark Oksana Lyniv conducted the emotional opening concert under the motto »No More War« with Mozart’s Piano Concerto and Mahler’s Fifth Symphony.

For his work as a Cultural initiator and manager Jochen Sandig, director of the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz (Federal Cross of Merit) in January 2023.  Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey presented him with the Cross of Merit on ribbon on behalf of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

What does everyday life at the Ludwigsburg Festival look like? During the city stories of the Ludwigsburg Museum, our artistic director Jochen Sandig will take you takes you behind the scenes of one of the most traditional festivals in Baden-Württemberg. In the monthly lecture series »City Histories,« experts will introduce unique places, fields of work and institutions in Ludwigsburg. On October 12, the stately rooms of the historic building and learn more about the vision for our celebration of the arts, democracy and sustainability.

What is worth preserving? What is forward-looking and what should Ludwigsburg take with it into its future? With these questions, artists Thomas Rustemeyer, Bruno Jacoby and Julian Warner invite Ludwigsburg residents to collect objects, ideas, melodies or anecdotes for a »memory of the future« as part of the ÜBER:MORGEN festival. In the course of the exhibition, the urban society fills the memory with personal answers to questions about the future and creates a communal and walk-in show depot

The ninth festival week starts on Friday, July 1 at 6:00 p.m. with the »Frei Luft Music« on the Ludwigsburg market square – this time with the Stuttgart band BRTHR. Afterwards at 8:00 pm the concert »Purcell Mendelssohn Mayer« will take place in the Forum am Schlosspark. On this evening, the ensemble reflekor positions the forgotten composer Emilie Mayer in a row with her great colleagues. On Sunday, July 3 at 7:00 p.m. you can hear the baritone Georg Nigl together with Olga Pashchenko on the fortepiano in an evening of »Vanitas« songs by with works by Beethoven, Schubert and Rihm in the Ordenssaal at the Residenzschloss Ludwigsburg.

Interested in diverse and queer issues? Fancy movement and dance? The »3RD BOX WORKSHOP« at the beginning of July allows for a safe and playful exploration of gender and gender identities and prepares for the visit of »THE 3RD BOX« on 10 July on a deeper level. We welcome registrations until 1 July.

You can experience two special concerts from the past season in the next few days: The Oberon Trio and Barbara Hannigan with the Festival Orchestra. On 19 June, the chamber music concert with works by Clara Schumann, Julia Purgina and Franz Schubert will be broadcast as »Concert Document of the Week« on Deutschlandfunk at 21:05. Shortly afterwards, on 20 June at 00:40, they can watch the rousing concert by Barbara Hannigan and the Festival Orchestra retrospectively.

A great week of dance: on June 17, 18 and 19 we will bring »Das Frühlingsopfer«, danced by the École des Sables from Senegal, one of Pina Bausch’s most important works to Ludwigsburg. This evening of dance will be the German premiere of the duet »common ground[s]« by Germaine Acogny, founder of the École des Sables, and Malou Airaudo, one of the first dancers at the Tanztheater Wuppertal. 

On Friday, June 17 at 6 p.m., »Frei Luft Musik« will once again take place at Ludwigsburg’s Marktplatz – this time with Quelle SURprise.

Artistic Director Jochen Sandig will bring his production of Brahms’ »Deutschem Requiem« on June 9 and 10, both at 8 p.m., at the Stuttgart Liederhalle. With »Human Requiem Brahms« the audience is directly involved in the action and experiences the deep and experience the profoundly human message of the Requiem with all their senses. On Friday June 10 at 6 p.m., the young singer-songwriter still sane will play the »Frei Luft Musik« on the Ludwigsburg marketplace. With the concert evening »The Unfinished Revolution« on June 11 at 8 p.m. in the Forum am Schlosspark we set a sign for democracy and peace. The Belarusian conductor Vitali Alekseenok and the orchestra of the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele combine Schubert’s 7th Symphony with poetry poem settings by Belarusian composers. On June 12 at 7 p.m. dancer Edivaldo Ernesto and pianist and composer Hauschka enter into a dialogue of dance and music.

The Belarusian activists Maria Kalesnikava, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and Veronika Zepkala have been awarded this year’s International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen for their services to the unity of Europe. In her speech, Federal Foreign Minister Baerbock referred to the laureates as «the most courageous women in Europe«. As the «Festival of the Arts, Democracy and Sustainability« we are very happy about this news and welcome this important sign for freedom and democracy.

The pianopoet Malakoff Kowalski will play on Saturday, May 28 at 8 p.m. in the his own compositions between jazz and classical music from his new album »Aphorisms«. In addition, Kowalski will present in his concert excerpts from his piano suite »Onomatopoetika« (2020) and the album »My First Piano« (2018). The concert will additionally be acoustically transferred to the cour d’honneur of the Ludwigsburg Residence Palace. At the subsequent Meet & Greet you can experience Malakoff Kowalski directly.

For the production «Human Requiem Brahms«, which will take place on June 9 and 10, 2022 in the Stuttgart Liederhalle we are still looking for children who would enjoy participating in this unusual performance of unusual performance of Brahms’ famous Requiem.

Falvetti’s rousing baroque oratorio «Il diluvio universale«, which retells the the Old Testament flood, will be performed on May 26 at 8 p.m. at the Forum am Schlosspark. The Accademia del Piacere is with »Diálogos Flamencos Barroco« on 28. May at 8.00 p.m. in the old Kelter Bietigheim to guest. The multinational, documentary music theater »The Common Stories« deals with the reconciliation of warlike conflicts in the in the Balkans and Rwanda and will be performed on May 28 at 8 p.m. and May 29 at 7 p.m. at the Karlskaserne. In addition, with a panel titled »The Meaning of Remembering« and and a reading by Judence Kayitesi an interesting supporting program will be offered – more information can be found here. With the poetic piano recital by Malakoff Kowalski on May 28 at 8:00 p.m. in the Ordenssaal will conclude the fourth Festival week of the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele.

Also this weekend the the festival center will be played in a variety of ways. Do not miss the open-air concert by the U.S.-based Kronos Quartet on Saturday, May 21 at 8 p.m. in the castle courtyard. Its program, «50 for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire« will include works by Terry Riley, Philip Glass, and Missy Mazzoli as well as several European premieres by contemporary composers. The concert will also feature local string quartet ensembles with whom the Kronos Quartet has worked in master classes on previous days.

On May 22 at 5 p.m., the young pianist Filippo Gorini will perform Bach’s Art of Fugue in the Ordenssaal. This concert will also be broadcast acoustically in the courtyard of the Ludwigsburg Residenzschloss. During the subsequent Meet & Greet you can meet the young pianist, who is already one of the outstanding talents of his generation.

The third week of the festival is dedicated to dance: Sasha Waltz & Guests will perform the choreographic opera «Dido and Aeneas« on May 20, 21 and 22 May at the Forum am Schlosspark. After the Friday«Free Air Music« with Tabea Booz & Band, another open-air concert will take place on Saturday, May 21 at 8 p.m. with Kronos Quartet will take place at the Festspielzentrum. Bach’s «Art of the Fugue« will be performed on by the young pianist Filippo Gorini on Sunday, May 22, at 5 p.m. in the will be performed.

On Sunday, May 15 at 5 p.m., we cordially invite you to the »Dabke Community Dance« in our festival center in the castle courtyard. The traditional circle dance Dabke is danced in the eastern Mediterranean region at holidays, family celebrations or for travelers. The dancer and choreographer Medhat Aldaabal and the percussionist Ali Hasan look forward to a moving togetherness. Also interested people without previous knowledge are welcome! Put on comfortable shoes and dance along!

If you are traveling to us by car, please note: During the Ludwigsburger Pferdemarkt (May 13 to 16; set-up already from May 9) parking at the Bärenwiese is limited. As an alternative you can use the Akademiehofgarage or the Rathausgarage, which are located in the immediate vicinity of the to the Forum am Schlosspark. In addition, the Ludwigsburg City Council is expecting expects many visitors on the open Sunday, May 15, 2022. Please make with the parking guidance system of the city of Ludwigsburg before you arrive and and allow sufficient time to find a parking space.

The 2022 season kicks off on May 5 at 8 p.m. with the »Fest Spiel Ouvertüre« with conductor Oksana Lyniv, pianist Iddo Bar-Shaï and our Festival Orchestra at the Forum am Schlosspark. This will be followed on May 6 by two musical highlights: The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine will perform at 6 p.m. at »Frei Luft Musik« on Ludwigsburg’s market square. At 8 p.m. the classical greats Isabelle Faust, Sol Gabetta, Kristian Bezuidenhout as well as the Basel Chamber Orchestra under the musical direction of Giovanni Antonini will be guests at the Forum am Schlosspark.

 Joseph Haydn, Claude Debussy or rather Jean Rivier? On May 26 and 27, the choice is yours! For »À la carte« the Mandelring Quartet has selected nine works that were not only groundbreaking in the history of the string quartet, but also represent key works in its long success story. On September 9, 2022, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Charles de Gaulle’s »Speech to the German Youth« and we ask ourselves: What would actually be a speech from the youth today? What wishes, goals and criticism would young voices of the present want to articulate? The emergence of such a speech the Ludwigsburg Festival would like to give time and space to the creation of such a speech in the coming months. Members of the Youth Community Council have already declared their willingness to participate in this project. A next meeting for the development of a »speech of the youth« will take place on Monday, April 25, 4 pm. A great opportunity to exchange ideas with other young people and to collect first ideas. From June 3 to 5, the 18th International Street Music Festival will take place in cooperation with the Ludwigsburg Festival. Over the weekend, the entire grounds of the Blühende Barock will become a unique stage for over 40 international musicians. Visitors of the street music festival can vote for their favorite act and the bands and musicians with the most votes will play on Sunday at 9.30 p.m. at the big concert on the main stage.

The Ludwigsburg concert of «Einstürzende Neubauten« has been moved for production reasons and will now take place on Tuesday, June 21 at 8 p.m. in the MHPArena in Ludwigsburg. The Stuttgart post-punk band «Die Nerven« will perform with a supporting program. Tickets for this music highlight are still available in our online store and in the ticket office. Tickets that have already been purchased for the concerts scheduled for 2020 or 2021 and are dated accordingly will remain valid.

Exciting news: »The Dying Swans Project«, our co-production with Gauthier Dance, is in the final of the Rose d’Or Awards 2021 in the category »Arts« and as a 3sat broadcast has a chance to win one of the most important awards for TV and audio entertainment in Europe. At the live-streamed award ceremony on November 29th, the 150-member jury will decide on the winning project. Until the award ceremony you can watch the 16 video choreographies on our Digital Stage and of course – cross your fingers!

We are looking for active support in the Artistic Planning & Production as well as in the Dramaturgy: A new project manager (f/m/d) and two trainees (f/m/d) in the Artistic Planning and one trainee (f/m/d) in the dramaturgy.

In early May, Oksana Lyniv opened the 2021 season with the festival orchestra, and now the conductor, who was the first woman to take the podium at the Bayreuth Festival in the summer of 2021, will become music director of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in January 2022.

In the series of talks by and with Elisa Erkelenz and David-Maria Gramse, unusual connections of classical music with philosophy, science, (martial) arts and pop are brought to light and thus »the pudel's core« of that genre is explored from a variety of perspectives. The podcast is released on the first of every month and is also available on our Digital Stage.

Unfortunately, Javier Perianes had to cancel his participation in the original concert evening »Zimmermann Perianes Cantilena« at short notice due to illness. For this reason, Tabea Zimmermann has decided to perform an extraordinary solo programme on Thursday, 8 July at 6 pm and 9 pm respectively with the new title »Tabea Zimmermann Solo«.

Over the course of a month, nine young people between the ages of 20 and 30 came together for six online workshops lasting several hours and dealt intensively with diverse gender identities and perceptions through writing tasks, movement sequences and free exchange. A filmic insight into the work can be seen on the Digital Stage.

In the film »Saz - The Key of Trust«, the instrumentalist Petra Nachtmanova follows the traces of the saz. Hardly represented in books, the history of this Persian or Ottoman-Turkish instrument is a mystery. At the »Saz Musik Fest« on 18 June, she will present her journey from Bosnia to Iran, recorded on film, and will play songs from there together with guests.

Originally scheduled for 11 May 2020, the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung is now bringing the award ceremony for Tabea Zimmermann forward. On 15 June, her more than 30 years of work will be honoured. She will use the prize money to establish a new foundation. We congratulate the prize-winner, who will also be a guest in Ludwigsburg on 8 July!

The »Piano City« concept developed by pianist Andreas Kern will move to the digital in 2021 to celebrate the house music tradition also and especially in these times. The year 2021 is still marked by the Corona effects, but also by digital, hybrid and, last but not least, numerous live events. Unlike last year, we were able to cover the entire festival period from 6 May to July 11 as well as the autumn dates in September and October with a total of 37 events! In addition to this we were able to present a triad of music, art installation and dance in the fall. We are grateful and happy and look back on a successful year.

The STEGREIF.orchestra invites you to an exciting new new format: In the digital 360° audiowalk you can follow individually routes to listen to Mozart’s musical and political diversity. For this you need a smartphone, headphones and sturdy shoes. From May 28 the project is available on the Digital Stage.

In a new scenic film project, the »Human Requiem« becomes an examination of the current consequences of Corona. Directed by Jochen Sandig and musically conducted by Gijs Leenaars, the Rundfunkchor Berlin offers hope and comfort in difficult times with Brahms' »Ein deutsches Requiem«. 

The Ludwigsburg Festival is launching the 2021 season with new momentum digitally. After the prelude with the »Fest Spiel Overtüre«, we now continue with a project by the STEGREIF.orchester: #bfree. Starting on 8 May on the digital stage. We look forward to your virtual visit!

What concerns you and the people from your city? Where do you experience moments of wakefulness, anger or happiness in public space? Searching for poetic moments in society, the workshop »Spoken Moments Poetry« is pursuing a digital concert experiment for collective success. Interested people from the age of 13 can register now.

April 16 brings 16 new releases: The media »Dying Swans Project« by Gauthier Dance comprises 16 solo choreographies, each with a different signature. We would like to recommend two events that you can enjoy digitally: The »St. John Passion« in a production of Podium Esslingen and the video clips of the »Dying Swans Project«.

Originally Edivaldo Ernesto was going to give an insight into his »Depth Movement« technique at the Tanz- und and Theaterwerkstatt Ludwigsburg in May. Due to Corona, his workshop cannot take place as planned. We are looking for an alternative date.

In the short program of last year's Ludwigsburg Festival, the performance of the Mandelring Quartet with Dmitri Shostakovich's String Quartets Nos. 1, 8 and 15 was a particular highlight. On 8 March 2021, the concert recording will be broadcast by SWR 2. Perfectly the Mandelring Quartet presents Shostakovich's incomparable art between lyrical pain, pointed sharpness and smug grotesqueness.

The founder of contemporary »African Dance« has been committed for decades to the deepening and spreading of African Dance. Since the 1960s, Germaine Acogny has been realizing and manifesting her vision, enriching the african - and eventually the international - dance world as a dancer, teacher and mentor. The Biennale Danza Festival now honours her life's work with the Golden Lion. In anticipation of this year's »Sacre« project, we congratulate her!

Einstürzende Neubauten have cancelled their »The Year of the Rat Tour« for 2021. The concert planned for May 16, 2021 in Ludwigsburg has been postponed to July 9, 2022.

At the moment it is not yet foreseeable under which conditions the performances of the 2021 Ludwigsburg Festival can take place. With »I can't breathe«, the dancer touched not only the visitors of the Ludwigsburg Festival. His renewed performance at the Romaeuropa Festival in September also convinced the jury of the Italian Danza&Danza Awards. We congratulate Edivaldo Ernesto for the award as best dancer 2020!

With the aim of contributing to an open and sustainable society oriented towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the Ludwigsburg Festival 2020 set off into a new decade. The fact that social cohesion can also be created virtually is also demonstrated by Alondra de la Parra with her project »The Impossible Orchestra«.

During the nationwide lockdown to contain the Corona pandemic, the Ludwigsburg Festival ticket office will also have to close.

The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were also launched by former German President Horst Köhler, among others. Since the 2020 season, he and his wife Eva Luise Köhler are the patrons of the Ludwigsburg Festival. Horst Köhler has shared his thoughts on this in a foreword.

Michael Rauter's online installation »Pixelsinfonie«, which is based on Ludwig van Beethoven's 6th symphony »Pastorale« and celebrated its widely acclaimed online premiere at the Ludwigsburg Festival on 18 June, can be seen again on our website.
