The 1967 animated film »The Jungle Book« is well known to many generations. It is based on the »Jungle Books« by Nobel Prize winner Rudyard Kipling, published in 1894, which have always been close to choreographer Akram Khan's heart. Not only because he himself danced the role of Mowgli in an Indian dance production as a boy, but above all because of the profound wisdom that can be found in Kipling's stories and poems: the symbiosis of man and nature and the need to belong. Moved by a world that seems to have forgotten these essential connections, his retelling shows Mowgli's story through the eyes of a climate refugee in a less endearing light. Dance, music and modern animation take us on an immersive journey into a deserted urban world where wild animals make Mowgli their ally in the fight for survival. Between seriousness and melancholy, the Akram Khan Company also shows with a wink that there is beauty and humour in every pain, but above all a spark of hope.
