A conversation between choreographer Akram Khan and cultural manager Farooq Chaudhry laid the company's foundation in 1999. Inspired by Khan's earlier training in the Indian dance form Kathak, they formed the vision to think big and boldly and learn and grow through collaboration with outstanding artists from different disciplines. In over 23 years, the company has become one of the most innovative dance companies in the world. With programmes ranging from Indian dance forms to classical and modern dance, Khan's company tells compelling and relevant stories. A milestone in its international success has also been the creation of part of the opening ceremony of the London Olympics in 2012. The Akram Khan Company is artistically associated with the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London, the Curve in Leicester and other leading theatres and festivals worldwide.
