Akram Khan

Choreographer, dancer

From the opening ceremony of the London Olympics with his dance company to documentaries with Oscar-winning directors: The fields of work of choreographer and artist Akram Khan, whose imaginative, accessible and highly topical projects have repeatedly created moving stillness and infectious enthusiasm over the past 23 years, extend far beyond the stages of this world. The multi-award-winning dance artist not only works with renowned choreographers and companies such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Israel Galván and the Chinese National Ballet but also with numerous artists from the performing and visual arts, including Juliette Binoche, Kylie Minogue, Anton Gormley, Steve Reich or Jocelyn Pook. Khan also works closely with the English National Ballet, for whom he created a new interpretation of »Giselle« as well as the works »Dust« and most recently »Creature«. Akram Khan is a two-time Laurence Olivier Award and Bessie Award winner, as well as an Associate Artist of Sadler's Wells and the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London.
