Benjamin Appl

Baritone

From the Regensburger Domspatzen to the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich to London: Benjamin Appl's path to the top class of singing was a steady one. He was significantly influenced by his teacher Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and by György Kurtág. He is now considered one of the most important ambassadors for the art form of Lied. In addition to the standard Lied repertoire, he develops special programme concepts and takes on opera roles. Appl has shared the stage with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich and the BBC Orchestras, among others. The German baritone has performed regularly at London's Wigmore Hall for many years and has been teaching as Professor of German Song at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama since 2016.
