Andreas Arend

Composer and lutenist

The composer and lutenist Andreas Arend studied lute and early music in Hamburg and Berlin. For several years, he has been developing multilayered, often literary programmes and concepts that combine historical elements with contemporary ones. Due to his preference for chamber music, he often plays in duos with violist Nils Mönkemeyer and baroque violinist Veronika Skuplik. He also feels at home in larger ensembles, such as the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. Together with Hille Perl, Claire Wilkinson and Veronika Skuplik, they produced the album »Ballads Within a Dream« in 2020. The compositions published by DHM are based on old English folk songs for voice, violin, viola da gamba and theorbo.
