Freiburg Baroque Orchestra

Ensemble

A few students of the Freiburg University of Music founded the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra (FBO) in 1985 and successfully started their concert life about two years later. The 32-member ensemble quickly established an excellent reputation within historically informed performance practices extending far beyond European borders. In addition to concert tours, the Baroque Orchestra regularly plays at the Konzerthaus Freiburg, the Liederhalle Stuttgart and the Philharmonie Berlin. Together with ensemble recherche, they founded the Ensemblehaus Freiburg 2012 as a new music centre. Kristian Bezuidenhout has led the FBO since 2017 together with Gottfried von der Goltz (violin). Collaborations with Teodor Currentzis, Sir Simon Rattle, Pablo Heras-Casado and, last but not least, the closely associated René Jacobs further enrich the baroque orchestra.
