Klaus Mäkelä

Conductor

Klaus Mäkelä is one of the most sought-after conductors of our time. The 28-year-old chief conductor is now in his fourth season with the Oslo Philharmonic and has also been music director of the Orchestre de Paris since 2022. He will then take over the direction of two equally renowned orchestras, the Dutch Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO), from the 2027/28 season. Mäkelä records exclusively for Decca Classics and is the first conductor to be signed in over 40 years. In 2023/24, he will lead his orchestras in seventeen concerts in Norway, a three-week tour through Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, and guest appearances in Hamburg, Amsterdam, Paris and Vienna. Highlights of the program include Shostakovich's Symphony No. 7, Bartók's »Duke Bluebeard's Castle«, and Brahms' double concerto, in which Mäkelä conducts and plays the cello alongside violinist Daniel Lozakovich.
