The compositions of the pianist and composer Márton Illés are located at the interface between Hungarian musical tradition and contemporary European art. The artist, who has been living and working in Germany since 2001, received his basic musical training in Hungary. He then studied piano and composition at the Basel Music Academy and the Karlsruhe Music Academy. Illés' works to date include compositions for solo instruments, ensembles, string and symphony orchestras, chamber music, musical theatre and electro-acoustic music, which have been performed on renowned stages worldwide. The great popularity of his work is also reflected in numerous awards - most recently, a scholarship from the Cité des Arts Paris 2021/22 and the Orchestra Prize of the SWR Symphonieorchester 2017. In addition to his main artistic activity, Illés teaches as a professor of music theory at the music academies in Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Wuerzburg.
