Born and raised in Munich, Matthias Winckhler moved to Salzburg to study singing. At the Mozarteum University, he studied with Andreas Macco and Wolfgang Holzmair and received further musical impulses from Matthias Goerne, Markus Hinterhäuser, Christa Ludwig, and many other greats. The award-winning bass-baritone was an ensemble member of the Niedersächsische Staatsoper in Hanover from 2015 to 2018 and appeared in other opera productions in Basel, Vienna and Paris, among other places. Concert invitations have also taken him to renowned festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, and the Mozartwoche Salzburg. Winckhler has already worked with ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Camerata Salzburg, and the Vienna Philharmonic and is accompanied as a lied singer by Marcelo Amaral, Verena Metzger, and Jan-Philip Schulze.
