Founded in 2016, the Babylon ORCHESTRA combines European and Middle Eastern music intending to support intercultural artistic cooperation. By combining and juxtaposing classical and traditional instruments, including oud and guitar, ney and flute, or kamancheh and violin, the musicians aim to promote a deeper understanding of non-European cultures. The orchestra has already played in many renowned German halls, such as the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Elbphilharmonie. Their debut album »Babylon ORCHESTRA« received the German Record Critics' Award in the category »World Music« in November 2020. During the pandemic, in 2021 the online opera »Our Stranger« was created by the Syrian film director Sina Salimi and the New Zealand opera director Neil Barry Moss, based on »The Stranger« by Albert Camus.
