Giovanni Antonini studied in Milan and Geneva and is a co-founder of the baroque chamber orchestra Il Giardino Armonico, in which he plays the flute and which he has directed since 1989. Antonini has worked with numerous renowned artists, including Cecilia Bartoli, Isabelle Faust, Sol Gabetta and Kristian Bezuidenhout, and is a regular guest with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra, among others. In 2014, he initiated the ongoing project »Haydn 2032«, where all 107 symphonies are performed and recorded by the Basel Chamber Orchestra and Il Giardino Armonico in honour of the 300th anniversary of Haydn's birth.
