Born in Italy, tenor Valerio Contaldo’s oratorio repertoire includes the most significant works of sacred music from Claudio Monteverdi to Frank Martin. Raised in Switzerland, he initially trained as a classical guitarist before studying at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, where he earned a Master’s degree in singing performance. He has been among the finalists of the Leipzig Bach Competition in 2008 and attended masterclasses with Christa Ludwig, Klesie Kelly, David Jones, and Julius Drake. Contaldo regularly performs at major European festivals and renowned concert halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Mozartwoche in Salzburg, as well as at prominent opera houses including the Opéra de Paris and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. He has toured across Europe, Asia, and South America, working under the baton of conductors such as Leonardo García Alarcón, Rinaldo Alessandrini, and Marc Minkowski. His recent notable recordings include Monteverdi’s »L’Orfeo« and »Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria«, Bach’s Mass in B minor with Gli Angeli Genève, and Fux’s »Dafne in Lauro« with the ensemble Zefiro.
