In its diverse concert programmes, the Münchener Kammerorchester (MKO), founded in 1950, blends the familiar with the innovative. Enthusiastic audiences and numerous honors, such as the Bavarian State Prize for Music, attest to its success. In 2022, the orchestra replaced its chief conductor structure with the concept of associated conductors; Jörg Widmann, Enrico Onofri, and Bas Wiegers currently share this title and will continue to do so in the coming years. Additionally, performances are conducted under the baton of concertmasters Yuki Kasai and Daniel Giglberger. The MKO regularly collaborates with musicians such as Isabelle Faust, Nicolas Altstaedt, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Anastasia Kobekina, and Piotr Anderszewski, and commissions works from Iannis Xenakis, Wolfgang Rihm, Jörg Widmann, Beat Furrer, Thomas Adès, and Bryce Dessner, among others. The orchestra performs approximately a third of its concerts in Munich, including collaborations with the Munich Biennale. The MKO also performs at renowned concert venues across Europe, Asia, and South America. Its extensive discography will be expanded at the end of 2026 with a multi-part CD edition of Beethoven’s symphonies.
