Belgian conductor and musicologist Jan Caeyers is recognised as one of the foremost Beethoven experts. He lived, studied, and worked in Vienna for many years, serving as Claudio Abbado’s assistant with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra from 1993 to 1997. In 2010, he debuted with his newly formed orchestra, Le Concert Olympique. This was followed by collaborative performances in Europe’s largest concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Elbphilharmonie, the Musikverein, and the Konzerthaus in Vienna, as well as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. As a freelance conductor, he has worked at Stuttgart Opera, with orchestras in Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, and Prague, as well as with the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra in Belgium. Jan Caeyers’ extensive Beethoven research and conducting experience inspired him to author the widely discussed »Beethoven« biography. During the landmark Beethoven year of 2020, he played a significant role through documentaries, lectures, concerts, and CD recordings. Until 2027, Caeyers will concentrate on the »Beethoven27« project, where he will perform Beethoven’s 27 most significant choral and orchestral works in 27 cities alongside Kit Armstrong, Le Concert Olympique, and the Arnold Schoenberg Choir.
