Jan Caeyers Musical direction
Beethoven under the microscope: In his 2020 publication, conductor Jan Caeyers depicts the pioneering composer as a »lonely revolutionary« and exceptional piano virtuoso who innovated in composition. »After him, everything was different«, he concludes. Caeyers offers insight into Beethoven’s remarkable body of work through two concerts with his orchestra, Le Concert Olympique, and internationally renowned pianist Kit Armstrong. On 18 July, they will focus on »pure Beethoven« and his work from the early 19th century: between 1803 and 1807, he composed his Third Piano Concerto, the »Waldstein« Sonata, and his Fifth Symphony. The piano compositions of the revolutionary and genius Beethoven demand extraordinary interpreters like Kit Armstrong. The former student and protégé of Alfred Brendel is a true multi-talent: once celebrated as a child prodigy, he is now an outstanding pianist, composer, and trained scientist. The second open-air evening at Seeschloss Monrepos promises Beethoven expertise and an exhilarating concert experience.
This concert is part of the Festival-Suscription VI.
