Option 2B: Jean Rivier String Quartet No. 1

Jean Rivier’s oeuvre of 200 works is rather unknown in this country. But listening to the emotional, tense and contrapuntally shrewd String Quartet in G major, which the Frenchman composed in 1924 during his studies, reveals a true chamber music treasure – and the urgent need to include Rivier, with his refreshingly neoclassical yet distinctive style, in the chamber music canon of the interwar period.

Joseph Haydn, Claude Debussy or rather Jean Rivier? The choice is yours on 26 and 27 May! For »À la carte«, the Mandelring Quartet has selected nine groundbreaking works in string quartet history and represent critical works in their long history of success. In three ballots, you can choose between three works each. Mandelring violist Andreas Willwohl has compiled listening examples of the works for you to prepare. Pick your favorites and vote on May 26 or 27!
