Option 3A: JOHANNES BRAHMS String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, op. 51/2

Johannes Brahms’ composition in A minor has a melancholy, pensive and dramatic effect. His derivation and variation technique was considered reactionary by the North Germans and the moderns. His Opus 51 quartets in particular, for which Arnold Schoenberg praised him as a »great progressive,« represented a starting point for Schoenberg’s theory of »evolving variations.«
