Whether as a hunting call, military fanfare or to bring down the walls of Jericho – the sound of the trumpet has produced many connotations in the history of mankind. Is it possible, therefore, to send a trumpet sound around the world that can be understood by musicians everywhere? Marco Blaauw explores this question in his research project »Global Breath«. On his worldwide search for traces, he investigates traditions, customs and sounds of the instrument. In an interview he now presents his results, which he has gathered in verbal and musical exchange with international trumpet players. This collaboration culminates in seven new compositions, which will be performed at the 2022 Schlossfestspiele. With a work by Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Blaauw will already present a cinematic premiere this year. an exciting exploration of sounds never heard before is guaranteed!
