Festival

Hip-hop is far more than just a music genre - it is a philosophy of life. What began to grow as a subculture in the Bronx at the beginning of the 1970s became a worldwide success, and today - boosted by the influence of the American occupation zones - it is impossible to imagine German music history without it. In the 90s at the latest, bands such as the Fantastischen Vier turned German hip-hop into a pop phenomenon and box office hit and put Stuttgart on the map. Since its inception, hip-hop has effortlessly combined disco, funk, and soul influences. A fine selection of DJs will show what this can sound like in the open air at the Karlskaserne; we celebrate the anniversary of 50 years of hip-hop culture with old-school raps through to laid-back party grooves entirely on vinyl records. Legendary veterans of the Stuttgart hip-hop scene will be at the forefront: DJ Friction, DJ Emilio and DJ 5ter Ton from the former Massive Töne, Kolchose and Freundeskreis circles. Also taking part are the multi-talented Femdelic, DeeKay, Dogan and LUCA.
