»Mon repos«, my rest: even the French name of the lakeside castle aligns with the thoroughly French concert that marks the three open-air evenings at this tranquil estate. However, don’t expect peace and quiet: the programme features lively festive music, energetic rhythms, and magical sound poetry. Works by French composers on 17 July are particularly suited to inspiring thoughts of our neighbouring country, especially as the cellist and conductor for the evening are also from France. And that’s not all they have in common: both are prominent figures in their country’s musical scene. Emmanuelle Bertrand was named Artist of the Year in 2011, and Ariane Matiakh was appointed Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2022. In their joint concert, they will be accompanied by the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra Reutlingen, which champions cosmopolitanism and curiosity. Let yourself be swept away by Saint-Saëns’ brilliantly lyrical cello concerto, Debussy’s lively »Nocturne« piece »Fêtes«, or the exuberant »Sorcerer’s Apprentice« in Paul Dukas’ orchestral work, and finally be captivated by the hypnotic »Boléro« rhythm of Ravel.
This concert is part of the Festival-Suscription VI.
