The world is turned upside down! At least, it has been rotated 180 degrees, according to the Italian dance company Il Posto and its choreographer Wanda Moretti. Their acrobatic dance project, »Variazioni Verticali«, should be taken literally: it moves vertically. For over 20 years, the dancers have performed on a wide range of vertical stages, moving across the facades of historic buildings, within contemporary architecture, indoors, or even floating completely in the air. Choreographer Moretti founded the company in Venice with musician Marco Castelli and specialised in site-specific performances on vertical planes to »visualise the connection with the environment«. On the first weekend of July 2026, Ludwigsburg’s city centre will also become a vertical festival stage: the 300th anniversary of the Stadtkirche provides an excellent occasion for Il Posto. The dancers start the choreography at the top of the building, ultimately exploring four states: decision, anger, fear, and joy. Depending on where you view the free spectacle from, new perspectives constantly emerge.
