Bach reimagined for the saxophone: this is what the experimental Arcis Saxophone Quartet has set out to do in its project »JSB:48«, focusing on the »Well-Tempered Clavier«. Johann Sebastian Bach dedicated this groundbreaking piano work to those eager to learn as well as to professionals, thus opening up a playground that the four Munich saxophonists are only too happy to enter today. In this project, they are recording all 48 fugues in a new version for saxophone quartet and have commissioned 48 composers worldwide to write a new prelude each. The result is a diverse and exciting collection, from which the Arcis Saxophone Quartet will present and moderate a selection in the festive Fürstensaal in Bad Imnau. Newly composed preludes by, among others, Aleksey Igudesman, Huey Ching Chong, and Theresa Zaremba will be combined with selected original fugues from Bach’s »Well-Tempered Clavier«. The program is further complemented by works, inspired by Bach and arranged by the Arcis Saxophone Quartet, such as Brad Mehldau’s interpretation of Radioheads »Exit Music«.
