Samuel Thery was born in Rennes, where he earned his diploma as a technician in music professions at the Lycée Jean-Pierre Vernant de Sèvres. The variety of colors and lighting effects quickly became his greatest passion, which is why, after graduating, he worked for nearly ten years for the big names in the French scene, designing lighting for large stage productions. In 2010, he discovered the world of dance and developed a keen sense of how to use light to convey a wide range of emotions. That same year, he participated in Les Terrasses, an open-air event organized by the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, working as a lighting designer for Jean-Christophe Maillot for the first time – a collaboration that continued repeatedly and finally led to Thery joining the Ballets de Monte-Carlo. Since then, he has designed lighting for numerous productions, including »Blind Willow«, »Woman in the Room«, »L’enfant et les sortilèges«, »F(ê)aite de la danse«, »Core Meu«, and »Coppel-i.A.« by Jean-Christophe Maillot.
