Born in Paris, Jérôme Kaplan studied stage design at the École de la Rue Blanche. After graduating, he designed sets and costumes for numerous theater and opera productions and, in 1992, worked with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and Jean-Christophe Maillot for the first time. Many other productions followed, including »Dov’è la Luna«, »Roméo et Juliette«, »Cendrillon«, »Schéhérazade«, and »La Belle«. In 2001, Kaplan became the first French stage designer to create costumes for the Chinese National Ballet’s production of »Épouses et Concubines«. This was followed by engagements at the Strasbourg Opera, the Comédie-Française, the Cairo Opera, and the Northern Ballet in Leeds. He has also worked for the Royal Danish Ballet, the Mikhailovsky Theater in Saint Petersburg, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and many others. He designs sets and costumes for the Dutch National Ballet, the Australian Ballet, the Bavarian State Ballet, and the New York City Ballet, and in 2012, he won the Golden Mask for his work on the world premiere of Lost Illusions at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.
