Founded in 1981, the Hagen Quartet has an unprecedented history, beginning with numerous competition successes. An exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon was followed by a large number of recordings that won significant awards. Sophisticatedly compiled programs and a serious engagement with works by contemporary composers complement the quartet’s stylistic diversity and exceptional sound quality. Collaborating with important artists such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt and György Kurtág is just as crucial to the Hagen Quartet as joint concert performances with Maurizio Pollini, Mitsuko Uchida, Krystian Zimerman, and others. As teachers and mentors, they pass on their wealth of experience to younger artists. Over the years, the four musicians have toured throughout Europe and have given concerts in South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. With the season 2025/26, the quartet is ending its career, which has spanned more than four decades.
