The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) is one of the world’s pre-eminent symphony orchestras and has provided an exceptional bridge between conservatoires and the professional world for generations of young musicians throughout all 27 EU Member States. The orchestra collaborates with many of the world’s greatest conductors and soloists, such as Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, and notably, Founding Music Director Claudio Abbado, as well as former Music Directors Vladimir Ashkenazy and Bernard Haitink, former Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko, and current Music Director Iván Fischer. Each year, around 3.000 young musicians apply for a place in the orchestra. Many of the Orchestra’s alumni have become internationally renowned artists. The EUYO has served as the EU’s Cultural Ambassador for nearly 50 years, performing in most of the world’s major concert halls and festivals across five continents. The EUYO’s strong commitment to professional development for its exceptional young musicians is reflected not only in its tour and residency programmes but also through its partnerships, such as the Café Bauhaus Awards.
