Two-time Chalmers Award winner Daniel Bard was born in Haifa, Israel, where he started his violin studies. Later, he studied in Toronto with David Zafer and worked with, among others, Lorand Fenyves, Peter Oundjian, and David Takeno. Invited by Tabea Zimmermann to guest conduct Camerata Bern, he has since led numerous projects with various groups, including Camerata Salzburg and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. Bard regularly leads the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. In 2017, he became concertmaster of the Basel Chamber Orchestra, and since 2021, he has been concertmaster of the Budapest Festival Orchestra under the baton of Iván Fischer. He co-founded Piano Trio Mondrian, which won first prize at the 2007 International Chamber Music Competition in Trieste and performed at renowned venues such as Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw, and La Fenice. He is a founding member of the Israeli Chamber Project, a chamber group active in Israel and performing at major venues across the USA. Bard is deeply passionate about the chamber orchestra setting and about mentoring the next generation of musicians, having led instrumental and chamber music classes at the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Jerusalem Music Centre, and the University of Toronto.
