With dedication, precision, and profound expressiveness, the calens vocalensemble explores the full spectrum of classical vocal music. The singers gained formative musical inspiration through workshops with VOCES8, The Gesualdo Six, and Stephen Connolly, as well as through their collaboration with Salome Tendies. In 2024, the calens vocalensemble received first place and the Audience Prize at the International A Cappella Competition in Leipzig and received the Special Prize from the SommerMusikAkademie Schloss Hundisburg for the best unamplified ensemble. Their repertoire includes works ranging from the Renaissance to the present day, as well as original compositions and arrangements. In doing so, the ensemble explores fundamental questions and addresses themes such as love, faith, doubt, and hope. Moreover, the calens vocalensemble performs regularly in Germany, internationally, and at renowned festivals. In 2026, they will perform at the Rheingau Music Festival and the Ludwigsburg Festival. Frederic Mattes and Franziska Bubeck are the musical directors of the ensemble.
