Omer Meir Wellber is a prominent conductor of opera and orchestral repertoire, also inspiring audiences as an accordionist and author. Since the 2025/26 season, he has served as General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera and the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra. There, he influences the programme with highly acclaimed opera productions, the new festival »Die Blaue Woche« (The Blue Week), chamber concerts, and explicitly contemporary-enriched orchestral performances. Before his appointment in Hamburg, he worked at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Vienna Volksoper, the Toscanini Festival, the Glyndebourne Festival, and Semperoper Dresden, among others. As a guest conductor, Omer Meir Wellber regularly performs with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and has also conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, and BBC Philharmonic, among others. He has collaborated with artists such as Fazıl Say, Veronica Eberle, Jacob Reuven, Steven Isserlis, and Alessio Vicario in concerts and CD recordings.
