Norwegian violinist and Hardanger fiddle player Ragnhild Hemsing blends elements of her native folk music with classical music. She made her stage debut at age 14. Since then, she has built an international career and helped raise the profile of the Hardanger fiddle outside Norway. She founded the Hemsing Festival with her sister in 2013. In recent years, she has performed at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Rheingau Music Festival, played with orchestras in Gothenburg, Hanover, Tampere, and Tallinn, and given concerts at venues including the Kennedy Centre in Washington, the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf and Zurich, and the Musée d’Orsay. In 2021, she received the OPUS KLASSIK award in the category »Classical Music Without Borders« for her album »Røta«. In the 2025/26 season, she will premiere three compositions for Hardanger fiddle and orchestra and perform with orchestras including the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestre National Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. Hemsing is pursuing additional projects with chamber music partners such as Jadran Duncumb, Mathias Eick, Mats Eilertsen, the folk-jazz trio Vetra, and Bjarke Mogensen.
