The Motus Quartet was founded in 2022 and is currently studying with Johannes Meissl at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. It has also received artistic guidance from, among others, Hatto Beyerle, Valentin Erben, Eckart Runge, Oliver Wille, the Jerusalem Quartet, Peter Schuhmayer and Patrick Jüdt. The quartet had the privilege of working with composer György Kurtág on several of his works, including the 12 Microludes for String Quartet Op. 13, and collaborating with the Arditti Quartet. In March 2025, the ensemble was awarded the First Prize and the Special Prize for the best interpretation of an early Classical work at the 10th International JOSEPH JOACHIM Chamber Music Competition in Weimar. It recently also received the Third Prize, the Special Prize for the best interpretation of the commissioned work, and the Jury’s Special Prize at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition. The Motus Quartet is a member of the European Chamber Music Academy and has already given debut performances at the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Musikverein Vienna, and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and now performs across much of Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America. In January 2026, the quartet will make its debut at Wigmore Hall.
