Numerous awards over recent years testify to Dmytro Udovychenko’s passion and conviction that music is his life’s calling. The scholarship holder of the German Music Foundation has won prizes in Montreal, Singapore, and Hanover, with his latest achievements including first place at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. Since 2022, the Ukrainian violinist has been studying under Christian Tetzlaff at the Kronberg Academy. Alongside his equally award-winning compatriot Roman Lopatynskyi on the piano, he performs stunning violin sonatas by Bartók, Beethoven, and Strauss. Bartók’s modern sonata may not be easy on the ear, but it resonates deeply. Conversely, some familiar motifs from Richard Strauss’ later symphonies already emerge in his young and only violin sonata. Udovychenko and Lopatynskyi, both passionate and virtuosic musicians, showcase their different facets in the small hall of the Seeschloss Monrepos.
