Romantic sonority, virtuosic chord layers, and musical travels to southern regions: 23-year-old pianist and organist Liya Wang won first prize in the piano category at the ARD Music Competition in 2025 and is now showcasing her keyboard talents beyond Munich. She will perform two different programmes at the Ludwigsburg Festival in Seeschloss Monrepos: Friday’s concert will include dreamy pieces by Franz Schubert, a classical piano sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven, and, finally, virtuosic romantic fantasies by Robert Schumann and Alexander Scriabin. Scriabin’s fantasy, in particular, explores musical contrasts, powerful chords, and arpeggios. »It’s as if the pianist had a large organ at his disposal«, says SWR music editor Doris Blaich, describing Scriabin’s compositional style. How fitting that Liya Wang, as an organist, also knows how to master these registers. On Saturday, she will take audiences to the sound worlds of Isaac Albéniz’s Andalusian impressions and Franz Liszt’s travel impressions from Italy and Switzerland.
