David Reiland studied conducting at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, the École Normale de Musique in Paris, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. He supplemented his training with master classes with Pierre Boulez, Bernard Haitink, David Zinman, Jorma Panula, and Mariss Jansons. In 2012, he won the Melgaard OAE Young Conductor Award and became assistant conductor of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in London. From 2012 to 2018, Reiland served as artistic and musical director of the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg. Since 2018, he has been General Music Director of the Orchestre National de Metz Grand Est; from 2021 to 2025, he also served as music director of the Korean National Symphony Orchestra. As a guest conductor, he regularly collaborates with renowned orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, the German Radio Philharmonic and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. He is also in high demand internationally as an opera conductor and has conducted at venues including the Leipzig Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin, and the Grand Théâtre de Genève. Since 2023, David Reiland has been a professor of orchestral conducting at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège. In 2021, he was named a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
