The ecumenical boys’ choir collegium iuvenum Stuttgart, based at the Stuttgart Cathedral Choir School, was founded in 1989. It views its work not merely as a musical endeavor, but also as extracurricular youth education and a sociopolitical mission. Its goal is to carry the more than 1,000-year-old tradition of famous boys’ choirs into the 21st century in a contemporary way. The choir’s strength lies in its broad repertoire, including sacred choral works from the Renaissance to the modern era. The collegium iuvenum Stuttgart is organized as a choir school: At around the age of five, the boys begin early musical education and progress through various choir levels. Even after their voices change, many of the young men remain active singers in the choir. With its excellent musical quality, the collegium iuvenum Stuttgart Boys’ Choir shapes the cultural life of the region and regularly performs beyond the region as well as internationally during its annual concert tours. The young choristers have performed in France, Spain, Finland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Norway, Poland, and Italy, as well as in Canada, Argentina, and the United States.
