A diverse repertoire, trained voices, and an open-minded approach: The Philharmonia Chor Stuttgart combines diversity, enthusiasm, and high musical quality. With a repertoire ranging from large-scale choral symphonies and oratorios to small-scale a cappella pieces, the Philharmonia Chor Stuttgart has been a fixture in Stuttgart’s musical life since 1986. The ensemble has performed a cappella programs at Musikfest Stuttgart on multiple occasions and regularly in church music series throughout southern Germany. In addition to musical-literary recitals at the New Palace in Stuttgart, choral-symphonic concerts at Stuttgart’s Liederhalle – including the Requiems by Verdi, Brahms, Berlioz, and Mozart, Handel’s »Messiah« and Orff’s »Carmina Burana« – are a regular feature of the ensemble’s calendar. The Philharmonia Chorus regularly collaborates with the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and the Stuttgart Orchestra of Cultures. Invitations have led to appearances at renowned festivals in Lucerne and Budapest, as well as at the ECLAT Festival for New Music in Stuttgart. As the choir of the Schloss Glatt Opera Festival, the ensemble has performed works by Verdi and Strauss on stage. Johannes Knecht has been the choir’s artistic director since 2003.
