As the daughter of the renowned fado singer, Carminho grew up surrounded by the sound of guitars and fado voices and has since enjoyed an incredibly successful career: her debut album »Fado« went platinum and was named Best album of 2011 by the British magazine Songlines. Shortly afterwards, Carminho became the first Portuguese artist to reach the top of the Spanish charts. Her subsequent releases were also hugely successful, earning her a Golden Globe, the Carlos Paredes Award, double platinum and a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Roots Album in Portuguese. Her current album, »I Will Die of Love or Resist«, was inspired by women such as Ana Hatherly, a Portuguese experimental poet, the singers Maria Teresa de Noronha, Beatriz da Conceição and Teresa Siqueira, as well as female pioneers of electronic music. With fados, composed by Carminho herself, the singer honours Portuguese tradition while offering a contemporary, personal reinterpretation of fado.
