The Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal captivates audiences with its virtuosity on some of France’s most prestigious stages and internationally. Established in 2019 for the opera »Ghosts of Versailles«, it boasts an impressive repertoire of 17th- and 18th-century music inspired by the history of Versailles. In the 2025/26 season, the orchestra will be showcased at its home venue with over 25 productions. Its passion for stunning backdrops and historic venues also leads it to Ludwigsburg. Conducted by violinist and conductor Andrés Gabetta and supported by select soloists, it will perform two works in the picturesque palace theatre: Joseph Haydn’s Seventh Symphony and the one-act opera »Le Cinesi«, a dramatic piece by Christoph Willibald Gluck, staged by Charles Di Meglio. Haydn’s Seventh Symphony – »Le Midi« – is dedicated to midday, representing the natural cycle of the day. Similar to Vivaldi’s seasons, this time of day acts as a metaphor for a stage of life. Here, the middle of life is presented to the audience in a lively and cheerful manner, celebrating this zenith. The second half of the evening features the one-act opera by the older master and contemporary Christoph Willibald Gluck, which he composed for the young Maria Theresa of Austria. Although set in China, the dialogues, in traditional Chinese attire, explore the lives of women at the Austrian court.
A co-production with the Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles.
The performance on SUN 12. July is part of the Festival-Suscription V.
