Lisa Batiashvili – a mythical creature? At least, if Camille Saint-Saëns’ prediction is anything to go by. While rehearsing his first violin sonata, he predicted it would be called »the hippogriff sonata« because of its high technical demands, as only such a mythical creature could master it. The Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili proves that no supernatural powers are required to achieve this. In 2023, she thrilled audiences at the Ludwigsburg Festival with her project »City Lights« and will be showcasing her chamber music talents in the upcoming season. She will be joined by Georgian pianist Nino Gvetadze, who directs two music festivals in her adopted home of the Netherlands. She aims to reach the audience with the »golden tone of the grand piano« and make time seem to stand still in the concert hall. The Schumann Quartet, whose name, incidentally, is not borrowed from the composer but from the surname of the three string-playing brothers, completes the line-up and views the live encounter with the audience as »the real thing«; it is there, at the latest, that one »automatically becomes honest with oneself«. Together, the six remarkable musicians deliver an authentic chamber music experience, without requiring any supernatural abilities.
