The court has always preferred to hold lavish festivities after dark. From the 17th century onwards, night-time garden concerts – including those organised by the court society in Ludwigsburg – became so fashionable that a separate musical genre emerged for them: the serenade. And because the mood of the night is usually introspective and melancholic, the serenade is also characterised by its romantic nature. Two shining examples of its sensitive musical language are Mozart’s »Serenata notturna« and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for String Orchestra, which cellist Jonas Palm – a native of Ludwigsburg, incidentally – will perform in the Ordenssaal. In the princely setting with its celestial ceiling painting, he and the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn invite you to dream yourself into your own evening sky.
