Their passion for performance and an exploratory spirit have characterised the Basel Chamber Orchestra since its founding in 1984. With great energy and stylistic openness, the musicians devote themselves to a repertoire ranging from early music on historical instruments to Viennese classical and contemporary works. The result is a lively, unmistakable sound, carried by the enthusiasm for making music together at the highest level. Firmly anchored in Basel, the ensemble enjoys a tremendous international reputation. Over 100 concerts per season regularly take the orchestra to primary stages and renowned festivals, inspiring partnerships with artists such as Sol Gabetta, Christian Gerhaher, Alexandra Dovgan, and the Collegium Vocale Gent. Artistic direction is provided by the concertmasters and conductors such as René Jacobs, Heinz Holliger, Deylana Lazarova, and Pierre Bleuse.
