The third festival week has begun

What’s on the agenda this week?


The third festival week of the 2023 season starts on Thursday, May 25 with the charming format »Mini Mal Mut«. Around 80 children and young people from various schools in Ludwigsburg and the surrounding area playfully and improvisationally become interpreters and composers and open up the countless possibilities of minimal music. Also on Thursday, at 8 p.m., the SWR vocal ensemble will be a guest at the Friedenskirche to mark the Ligeti anniversary: Under the direction of Yuval Weinberg you can hear a selection of Ligeti’s most beautiful a cappella works and a world premiere by the Hungarian composer Martón Illés. Introduction at 7:00 p.m. with composer Márton Illés.

The concert will be recorded by the radio station SWR and broadcasted on Friday, May 26, at 20:05 in the SWR2 evening concert.

On Friday, May 26, the fourth «Open Air Music« of the season will take place on the Ludwigsburg Marketplace from 6 pm. This time: A woodwind trio of the Festival Orchestra & Andreas Nebl. (In case of rain, the concert will be performed in the adjacent Evangelical City Church).


Afterwards, also on the occasion of Ligeti’s birthday, his piano etudes »Études pour pianodes« will be combined with contemporary dance at 8:00 pm at the Karlskaserne Art Center: The production »Hear Eyes Move« by choreographer Elisabeth Schilling performs a dancing concert and a concert dance.

Afterwards, there will be a meet & greet with the choreographer and her ensemble.


On Pentecost Sunday, May 28, the world-famous violinist Midori will celebrate her 40 years of stage presence in a matinée at 11 a.m. In the stylish Ordenssaal of the Residenzschloss, she will perform Bach sonatas for solo violin – »Midori Bach Sonatas«
