JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH Sonata No. 3 for solo violin in C major, BWV 1005

JOHN ZORN »Passages«
JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH Partita for Violin solo No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004

Midori Violin

Two things are unimaginable for violinist Midori: a life without music by Johann Sebastian Bach and the fact that his oeuvre was forgotten for many years before being rediscovered in the 20th century. Once celebrated as a classical prodigy, the violinist celebrates her 40th stage anniversary with masterpieces that Bach bequeathed to the violin repertoire: the Sonatas in A minor and C major as well as the Partita in D minor. She juxtaposes the baroque beauty and complexity with two contemporary composers who have in turn been inspired by the work of the most prominent representative of the musical family. John Zorn's spirited »passages«, for example, are based on the legendary B-A-C-H motif, while with composer and organist Thierry Escaich the religious resonates as an element of musical architecture. Look forward to a programme rich in contrasts with well-intoned sound adventures.
