Martina Gedeck completed her acting training at the Berlin University of the Arts. She made her theatre debut at Frankfurt's Theater am Turm, followed by engagements in Hamburg, Basel and Berlin. At the same time, she began her career as a film actress. She was awarded the Bavarian Television Prize for her first leading role in the television drama »Die Hölleisengretel«. The film industry has since celebrated her with nearly every major film award from the Adolf Grimme Prize to the Star on the Boulevard of Stars. She became internationally known especially with »Bella Martha«, the Oscar-winning film »The Lives of Others«, and the Oscar-nominated »The Baader Meinhof Complex«.
