Sung-Uk Brad Hwang was born in 1966 in Seoul, South Korea, and studied art at the University of California with Charles Ray, Chris Burden and Paul McCarthy and sculpture in Baltimore with Sal Scarpitta. From everyday objects and all kinds of materials, which he thus breathes new life into, the artist and sculptor creates mechanical sculptures and installations that call for participation and invite encounters and playful interaction. Hwang has been working in Berlin since 1991 and lives with his wife and two daughters on a houseboat on a branch of the Spree.
